Obesity: A global Issue

OBESITY















A life-style disease where someone's condition is very fat in an unhealthy way. It is when the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and other mammals, exceeds healthy limits. Obese people are responsible for their obesity. Obestity can occur when the person eats unhealthily such as junk foods.




















Estimated body fats can be measured by using BMI (Body Mass Index), which is weight (kg) per height squared. These are the values of BMI's of different catagories:



  • A BMI less than 18.5 is underweight

  • A BMI of 18.5–24.9 is normal weight

  • A BMI of 25.0–29.9 is overweight

  • A BMI of 30.0–39.9 is obese

  • A BMI of 40.0 or higher is severely (or morbidly) obese

  • A BMI of 35.0 or higher in the presence of at least one other significant comorbidity is also classified by some bodies as morbid obesity.


Obese people are always get ignored by the surrroundings due to their appearance.







There are many causes of obesity. Some are:




  • Lifestyle

  • Genetics

  • Medical Illness

  • Neurobiological mechanisms


Obesity can impair the person's social life and interaction. Obese people may have poor-self esteem because they ate often shunned by their peers. They also have to spend a lot of money on medication and treatment. Obese people may have the difficulties in sleeping, fatigue, tired and complication in pregnancy (for women)


The causes of obesity :

  1. stroke
  2. blood vessel damage
  3. Heart Attack
  4. Kidney Failure
  5. Cancers such as endometrial, breast and colon
  6. Asthma
  7. Gallbladder disease
  8. Bowed legs and flat feet.
  9. Early puberty & physical maturation
  10. Acne

Obesity can be solve by having treatment or surgical procedures (lipocuction). The other solution is by exercising and eating balance diet.
